For many, Sundays are about slowing down. For me, they’re about showing up — for my community, for new friendships, and for the joy of giving. – Suraj Godiyal ✨
My Sundays start around 10 AM. I pack my tote with essentials — water bottle, snacks, notebook — and step out with that quiet excitement that only volunteering brings. By 11, I arrive at the venue. Sometimes it’s a lively park 🌳, sometimes a community hall 🏠, sometimes a shaded corner of Lodi Garden 🌿.
As a core volunteer with The Kind Citizen - TKC, I help set up stations, lay out materials, and welcome everyone who walks in — especially first-timers 🤝.
We begin with light icebreakers. They may seem small, but they turn a group of strangers into a team. There’s laughter 😂, a few awkward jokes, and soon enough, conversations start flowing naturally. The day then moves into the main activities — creative, hands-on, and often collaborative 🎨✂️. Whether we’re arranging tables, guiding a group, or painting under the trees, the hours slip by almost unnoticed.
There’s something grounding about being surrounded by people who believe in the same cause. We share stories, exchange ideas 💬, and sometimes even sit in comfortable silence while working side by side. By late afternoon, the event slows. We clean up 🧹, click group photos 📸, and gather for a quick reflection. That’s when you feel it — the quiet pride of knowing you contributed to something bigger than yourself.
It’s not the kind of tired that drains you — it’s the kind that fills you up 💛. And each Sunday, I walk away with the same thought: this is time well spent.
No two Sundays are the same. But every single one leaves me grateful 🌸.
Why The Kind Citizen Feels Like Home
Volunteering with TKC isn’t just about activities or hours — it’s about the people, the shared values, and the simple joy of giving back without expectations. Every Sunday brings new stories, new designs, and new friendships — and each of them stays with you.
