For some, healing comes in silence.
For others, it begins in the company of strangers who make you feel seen.
When Harnoor Kaur moved from Punjab to Delhi, she brought more than just suitcases – she carried the weight of starting over, the noise of an unfamiliar city, and a quiet mental fatigue. She felt invisible.
A friend suggested trying a local volunteering event with The Kind Citizen - TKC. “Just show up,” they said. She did.
Her first event – tote bag painting – was about transforming plain fabric bags into eco-friendly art pieces for community initiatives. As she painted alongside other volunteers, something shifted. She found rhythm — in the colours, in the laughter, in the quiet knowing that she was doing something that mattered.
Next came the Seva Sandwich Drive in an old age home, preparing sandwiches for elderly residents, cancer patients, and malnourished children. Every sandwich felt like a soft reminder that someone cared.
Then, TLM (Teaching Learning Materials) making – creating learning tools for children from underserved communities. Crafting alongside strangers who felt like friends, Harnoor saw beauty emerge from simplicity – much like her own journey.
With each event, strangers became friends, and the city felt less unfamiliar. Her weekends became something to look forward to. The fog began to lift.
Today, she’s a regular volunteer at TKC, showing up consistently and bringing her quiet warmth to every drive.
Her journey is proof that:
- Small acts of service can spark big transformations.
- Kindness doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful.
- When you show up for others, you often find yourself.
From crisis to confidence, Harnoor’s story reminds us — when kindness becomes a habit, healing becomes possible.
